Linked In

LinkedIn -possibility to manage your professional identity. Build and engage with your professional network.

Basicly an way to network with different people in your "formal" life. You must give an positive and healthy image by your self. Some of us think that this is waste of time, but for some it have (probably) worked. For example one of use have got job offer from abroad and in that case those who were making recruiment had visited persons site.

You can write about your self, but remember to be formal. No jokes, if you are not klown... Write things, that you think will wake up others intres about your knowledge.

  1. One form of social network and media is LinkedIn. LinkedIn provides easy connection between professionals and other working people. The service is build up on person’s professional career and connections. Anyone can see your CV and present work among many other things.
Social media is powerful tool and it may be useful in some cases. On the other hand there is a lot of information that necessarily does not need to be published. In many ways in nowadays way of life social media is considered as a trend and a normal way of acting in network environment.
In LinkedIn service I did not find any special feature or function why this service should be registered. As an individual and private person I am concerned about the privacy and information that is shared in social media. Once the information is published in networks it cannot be taken back anymore. In my opinion the risks are more obvious than the benefits that there may be when person is providing wide range of information regarding he/she.

In LinkedIn person is providing information which is quite personal. If you are not looking for a new job or if you do not wish to share all your private working history – including present job – online, it may be better to not to use this service. I did not find any particular reason to be registered as a member in LinkedIn during my test period and did not benefit any new ideas etc. Of course it is possible to send mail and invite co-workers and connections via LinkedIn, but why not use the e-mail?
Also if you are working in kind of area that gives people strong emotions and feelings such as police, tax officer etc. it may be better not to be identified, especially with a picture.

Personally I would not use and share information in LinkedIn.

  2. I have also heard a comment that Linkedin is a good tool for professional people, but in case you are applying for a job, why not just use the basic way to apply. Send and application and CV. I do not have a clear vision how this part of social media could help with getting a job, but somehow I doubt the benefits.

  3. I see LinkedIn usefull and as a part of my professional identity. I think, that when I work in service sector, my customers and co-workers has an right to know with whom they are dealing with. They don't need to know about my family or close friends, but it doesn't harm if they know my connection I have. By being more open, I become more trustworthy and trust is base for customer loyalty.

  4. Just to point out the meaning of face-to-face communication, do the other people really know a person by the profile on social media? Of course there is limited amount of information that does not open up the real picture that much. On social media one can make him or herself seem like a nice and active person, but what if this image does not apply to the real life?
